Kyle Bennett`s pre-season wonder-strike bodes well for Notts County

The ex-Portsmouth winger, still only a trialist at Notts County, scored a 20-yard worldie into the top corner against Southern League Premier side Coalville FC. Kyle Bennett arrives at County as a free agent, after running out a lucrative three and a half year contract at Bristol Rovers. The left winger scored a mere 4 goals in 62 appearances at the Gas but looks to begin an audacious redemption story if signed by his new National League club.

Bennett ranked among Portsmouth’s top goalscorers when he put two past County in their 2016 clash. This season, times have changed, as Bennett trials for the club ahead of their 160th birthday. Notts County finished fifth last National League season, going on to lose a hard-fought battle 4-2 to Torquay in the playoff semi-finals. Bennett's newfound form this pre-season offers an encouraging sign ahead of their next campaign to return to the EFL.

The experienced winger, now 30 years of age, played a blinder against Coalville after starting the game on the bench as a trialist. Coming on at half time, Bennett whipped in crosses and shots for the full 45, making the first goal and scoring the second to break the deadlock and seal the victory. Bennett hit the post, gifting fellow trialist Damian McCrory a tap-in. Minutes later, the winger cut in to pivot on the edge of the box to curl in a beauty. His composure, persistence, and accuracy earned attention and praise from fans and staff alike.

Bennett’s animal rights advocacy and eco-friendly clothing range, Nextinction, show him to be a well-rounded and compassionate individual. However, his game-dictating performance on the pitch matters most to many Notts County fans. Supporters of County, the oldest professional club in the world, eagerly await Bennett’s next minutes in the upcoming friendly against Telford this weekend.
