South Shields bring in keeper

South Shields FC is pleased to announce the signing of Scott Moloney on loan from Barrow.

The agreement will see the goalkeeper spend the next 28 days at 1st Cloud Arena as the Mariners cover for the injury sustained by Myles Boney in the New Year’s Day win over Scarborough Athletic.

Boney is expected to return to training in the next 10 to 14 days.

Moloney, 21, is a highly-rated goalkeeper who joined Barrow in the summer of 2020 after spells in the junior ranks of Hartlepool United and Bury. He has also previously had a loan stint with Skelmersdale United.

Shields manager Graham Fenton said: “We’ve been doing lots of work in the background over the last 10 days or so trying to cover the goalkeeper situation.

“We’re delighted to have signed Scott on a month’s loan.

“He has huge potential and is looking forward to playing some senior football over the next few weeks.

“He’s a goalkeeper who is very composed with the ball at his feet, which we require with the way we play.

“He’s also a very good shot-stopper and we’re very pleased to welcome him into the squad.”
