Tamworth appoint Andy Peaks

Andy Peaks has today been appointed the new boss of Southern League Premier Division Central side Tamworth, departing AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

The 51-year-old teacher joins The Lambs on an 18-month contract with the first task of ensuring Southern League Premier Central safety and then putting the club in a good position to achieve promotion to the National League North next season.

Peaks' managerial career began in 2006 when he obtained his coaching badges and joined Long Buckby as assistant manager to former teammate Adie Mann. In January 2009, he joined Daventry Town as player-assistant manager, before taking the managerial role at United Counties League side Northampton Spencer on 19 June 2009, alongside coaching at the Rushden & Diamonds Academy until the club went out of business in 2011. In May 2012, Peaks was announced as Mark Starmer's assistant at newly-formed phoenix club AFC Rushden & Diamonds. After helping achieve promotion in the club's inaugural season, he became caretaker manager in March 2014. He then won promotion from the United Counties League in 2015 and again to the Southern League Premier Division Central in 2018.

Tamworth chairman Bob Andrews said of the appointment. “We had some very high calibre applications but Andy stood out as the person we believe that can take Tamworth forward to the next level. He has an excellent pedigree and we look forward to working with him."
