James McKeown apologises to fans following relegation

It was confirmed on Tuesday night following a 3-2 defeat against Exeter City that Grimsby Town will be forced to return to the National League after enjoying five campaigns in the EFL.
Following the sad news of their relegation to non-league football, Grimsby captain James McKeown has sent out a heartfelt apology to all the fans for not living up to their expectations but has promised to bounce back stronger from this.
McKeown was part of the squad that saw Grimsby gain promotion to the EFL through the National League playoffs in 2016 under the management of Paul Hurst. Unfortunately, the manager who returned to the club this season after Ion Holloway’s resignation failed to guide the club as he did five years ago.
Grimsby joins Southend United, whose relegation was also recently confirmed.
