Grimsby Town 's Paul Hurst shedding 7 players

The names of seven under-contract players have been circulated to clubs as Paul Hurst looks to move on the players not in his plans for next season.

Grimsby Town have made seven of their under-contract players available for free transfers this summer.

The Mariners have wasted no time in getting their business underway ahead of their return to the National League, with eight new signings arriving at Blundell Park over the past few weeks.

The additions have come after 10 players were released after relegation from the EFL.

Paul Hurst though was still left with a number of players still under contract who were not part of his plans for the 2021/22 campaign, when Town will be aiming to make an immediate return to the Football League.

The Mariners are now looking to offload those players, and in the process open up more room for more incomings this summer.

Montel Gibson, Danny Rose, Ira Jackson Jr, Filipe Morais and George Williams have all been made available for free transfers.

All but one of those listed has a year remaining on their contracts at Blundell Park – Gibson has two left – with all five having been signed last summer by previous manager Ian Holloway. Academy graduates Duncan Idehen and Joe Starbuck have also been made available, although any moves away for the pair will be subject to sell-on clauses.

All seven names have been circulated as Town look to cut down their squad ahead of the return to pre-season training.

Should those players be able to find new clubs this summer, it will mean just two of the players signed last summer – Sean Scannell and Luke Spokes – will remain at Town next season. And there could yet be more departures – Luke Hendrie looks set to be on his way out of the club, having been offered new terms at the expiry of his contract.

The right-back was in talks over a potential move to Scunthorpe United, although that now looks unlikely, leaving Hendrie to weigh up his options.

Evan Khouri is the only other player not to have had his future settled yet, having been offered his first professional contract at the end of the 2020/21 campaign after impressing towards the end of the season. Source: James Findlater and Grimsby Live
