Farsley Celtic 2-2 Harriers

HARRIERS took a point from a real scrap of a game at Farsley Celtic on Saturday, the two teams playing out a battling 2-2 draw.
Harriers haven’t made a habit of conceding cheap goals this season, especially on the road, so the frustration was evident on 17 minutes when the home side took the lead all too simply; a corner not cleared that Tom Allan fired into the roof of the net.
The response to going behind this season has always been good, however, and that was once again the case at the Citadel – Harriers needing just five minutes to reverse the early deficit into a lead. First, the ever-impressive Austin continued his scoring run by turning his man and firing into the net from 20 yards. Then, with home heads spinning, Hemmings was played in and crossed low to the onrushing Sterling who timed his run to perfection to turn the ball home.
Before the half-hour there was a good chance apiece, Harriers almost extending their lead through Morgan-Smith who motored forward to latch on to a forward ball that he fired just past the far post before Spencer, at the other end, also struck off target.
The home side were awarded a penalty in first half injury time after Maxwell was adjudged to have fouled his man on the edge of the area. Richards stepped up to take the kick from 12 yards but struck it too high, finding only the bar.
Harriers were uncharacteristically slow to start the second half and, barley a minute past the restart, the scores were level again – Spencer showing good strength to get his shot off, Johnston finding the net from six yards after Simpson could only parry the initial effort.
In terms of genuine chances that was, pretty much, all we saw for the second half as defences took over and remained on top throughout.
Hemmings and Sterling had half chances with – by their own standards – relatively tame efforts that Drench dealt with comfortably enough.
Up at the other end, long, high balls into the area ensured Farsley remained a consistent threat, but Harriers stood up to the test, Spencer firing over with one of their better chances of the half, Simpson doing well to hold a Hayhurst free-kick soon after.
