Torquay United set to keep Plymouth Argyle midfielder

The two Devon clubs are in talk about 20 year old Adam Randell.
Plymouth Argyle midfielder Adam Randell is likely to have his loan at Torquay United extended until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has been a first team regular for Gary Johnson’s Gulls, who are currently top of the National League.

Randell has made 14 starts and two substitute appearances, and scored one goal.

He initially signed for Torquay on a one-month loan at the start of October and that deal was later extended until January.

Lowe said: “I spoke to Gary Johnson last night who is absolutely over the moon with him, as we are.

“We will follow those discussions up in the next few days and see where it’s at, but there is every chance Adam will stay there.

“He could potentially have another promotion on his CV hopefully if Torquay keep doing what they are doing.

“How good would that be? First year pro getting a promotion from League Two to League One (with Argyle), and then second year pro getting a promotion from the National League.

“We know Adam has got a big future at the football club with us, as well as a future at Torquay at the moment.

“We are quite happy with that one and we will look to address that next week I think.”

Torquay are 11 points clear of second-placed Hartlepool United, who have played one game fewer than them.

Sutton United, in third position, are 12 points behind the Gulls and have four matches in hand.

Torquay are next in action on Tuesday, January 12 when they host Solihull Moors at Plainmoor.

Meanwhile, Lowe has spoken about first-year professionals Ollie Tomlinson and Rubin Wilson, whose loan spells at Barnstaple Town and Dorchester Town respectively have been halted.

Barnstaple and Dorchester have had their Southern League campaigns suspended due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Lowe said: “Ollie has been great, he has been training with us quite a bit now, and so has Rubin.
“Our main focus this year was to do without the (under) 23s and send them out on loan, which gives them more game time.

“It’s tough at the minute but what I will say is they are getting good education still, training with the first team on a day-to-day basis and getting coached properly. So that is a big bonus for them.” Source: Chris Errington and PlymouthLive
