Brighton coach Simon Rusk to replace Jim Gannon as Stockport County manager

On Thursday Stockport County manager, Jim Gannon was relieved from his position. Set to replace him as manager is under-23’s coach for Brighton, Simon Rusk.
Rusk, aged thirty-nine, started off his career back in the day as a midfielder for Boston United, Crawley Town and York City. After his retirement, he went on to coach the under-18 team at Brighton for three years. This was followed by his time as the coach for the under-23s for six years. Rusk has coached some of the most athletic young players in the Brighton Premier League squad. This includes the likes of Ben White, Steven Alzate, Aaron Connolly, and many more who have trained under his tutelage.
This will be Simon Rusk’s first time in a management position as the manager for the Hatters. It will mark the end of his nine-year long tenure as a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion.
Rusk is expected to take with him to Edgeley Park someone with expertise to be his right hand. A noticeable candidate for this position is Mark McGhee. McGhee has managed Brighton earlier in the day and has lead Leicester, Motherwell, and Wolves. He has also been an assistant coach for the Scotland National Team for a short period. It will be interesting to see in which direction Rusk takes Stockport County under his management.
