Wrexham AFC Transfers

Dean Keates has spending power as a result of the club's takeover but the Reds' boss will not be held to ransom when it comes to strengthening his squad.

Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have taken control at The Racecourse and invested £2million in the club, although not all of this money will be spent on the first team budget.

Keates, who would like to add to his attacking options, is only able to sign free agents now that the transfer window has closed and has been in talks with a potential target.

However, the Reds' boss was unwilling to meet the "unrealistic" wage demands and the signing has fallen through.

"We are still looking but it has to be the right players with the right characteristics coming into the club," said Keates, who signed Tyler French and Dior Angus before the window closed.

"We put something to someone but he was unrealistic with the terms that he came back with.

"There was no way that we were going to go with the terms that he wanted to have his services so we just move on to someone else, and keep looking.

"But we have to make sure it is the right signing for us and the football club."

When asked whether targets will ask for more money now that the club's coffers have been boosted, Keates: "That might be something to try on - if you don't ask you don't get.

"It wasn't going to me a marquee signing, it was an opportunity for the player to develop and progress with the football club but we will look elsewhere." Source: Richard Williams and The leader
