Chesterfield announces new captain

Chesterfield has announced midfielder Curtis Weston as their new captain to lead the squad after he signed a new deal with the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.
Weston’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, following which he was expected to become a free agent. Weston has previously stepped in as captain before during Chesterfield’s clash against Barnet F.C when former captain Will Evans was suspended. He eventually led the team to a 6-0 victory. Weston, who joined the Spireites back in 2018, has started every game this season except one and has moved into the area with his family.
Chesterfield manager James Rowe took to the club’s website to commend Weston for his work for the community trust and to applaud his gameplay. He described him as a ‘role model’ for everyone in the squad in and off the field.
