Many people's favourites for the title Hayes and Yeading United were beaten on the opening day of the season when they lost 2-1 against the Met Police. There were good away wins for Truro City Swindon Supermarine and Poole Town who all scored three goals on their travels with Truro winning 3-1 at Hanwell Town and Swindon winning 3-0 at Hartley Wintney while Poole won 3-0 at Winchester City. Yate Town were also winners on their travels winning 1-0 at Hendon. Dorchester Town were 2-1 home winners against North Leigh. Gosport Borough won a five goal thriller beating Merthyr 3-2. Salisbury scored the only goal of the game to beat Beaconsfield Town 1-0. The remaining games were all draws with Bracknell Town drawing 2-2 against Weston Super Mare. 2-2 was also the scoreline in the game between Plymouth Parkway and Chesham United. Tiverton Town and Harrow Borough played out a 0-0 draw.
There were no league games in Division One South due to FA Cup matches.
